In my ever-expanding beauty universe, I try to minimize the amount of makeup I hoard. I don't wear many eye shadows (though I collect them with the ferver of a creepy china doll stasher). I can move out shadows that I won't wear with wild abandon via gifting to friends and relatives. But it takes a strong woman to let some NARS out of her hands. And this woman is not strong enough. I must have these new palettes in my possesh. The deets:
NARS Cosmetics introduces two new palettes for fall boasting new packaging with a compact in a NARS-logo zippered case. Enclosed in a black carton, NARS continues to surprise and experiment with iconic casing by bringing the logo from traditionally black and white to vibrantly bold color. Complete with a range of shades to be worn together or alone, the glamorous combinations are limitless. Are you all about the eyes or all about the lips? You decide. Or, choose both to have everything you need at your fingertips.

Hi Amber, this is off-topic, but I have a question and I KNOW you're the girl for the answer. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm 32, medium to dark brown hair, blue eyes and fair skin. I have perfect virgin hair, and like my natural color with it's slight natural highlights. BUT I've been attacked by gray hairs! I can no longer pull them, or pretend they're not there.
What should I do? I'm scared to go to the salon and really start full-on coloring my hair. Also, I want to get prego, so you know, need to do something lower maintenance.
Do I try a non-permanent clairol to start myself and see what I think? Do I just color the parts that need it at first?
Do I go to the salon and get demi permanent? Do I do highlights?
help!!! this sucks!
Hi Anon,
ReplyDeleteI love off-topic! Totally understand. Okay. Because you want to be low maintenance and are looking for a single, all-over color (correct?) I'd say box-dye away. Clairol is totally fine. Non-perm to start is a good idea, but once you do it once or twice, you can move up to perm. I'd just get something good for covering gray (Nice 'n Easy's good) in what's closest to your natural color. Buy TWO boxes (three if your hair's super long) so you can ensure you fully coat your hair. No one needs to be gray at 32. But you don't need to spend a lot of money to keep it in check. Alternatively, if you'd LIKE highlights, go for it, but know that that's something best left to professionals. And it's more maintenance. But, it'll effectively cover your gray (provided there's not a ton). Hope that helps? Let me know what you decide! xo
I'm nervous! I guess I'll be using the Clairol 78 Medium golden brown non-permanent that I bought though! Should i first do a bit on top where most of the gray is and see what it looks like before i do around the face and temples? I've been wearing my hair back to hide my graying part recently anyway.
ReplyDeleteDoes a non-permanent color really wash out (after x many washes) and not change your hair or damage it? I'm so skeptical and nervous!
Also, in reading your most recent how to look great with highlights you mention glosses. What kind of gloss do you recommend?
Thanks Amber :) Wish you could hold my hand.
Ohhh...Only You. I must own this. I have a NARS problem. Some would call it an addiction.
ReplyDeleteHey Anon,
ReplyDeleteI think it's best go whole-hog when it comes to at-home dyeing. Just doing the top might result in patchiness.
Yes, non-perm really does wash out. It will damage it slightly (it'll probably just make it drier, something you can alleviate with sulfate free shampoos or those designated for color-treated hair).
Re: Glosses, those are best done in-salon, but you could try John Frieda's version, which is pretty good, as is Frederic Fekkai's. Hope that helps!!
Good luck! I wish I could hold your hand, too :)
Beautiful Life.
ReplyDeletePerfect for a night out.
Perfect to create the new smoky look I saw on runways this summer.
Anon here with an update.
ReplyDeleteI followed the directions and did a strand test. The grays weren't covered by the temporary 6-12 washes. I tried the nautral instincts non-permanent 28 washes, and again, nada.
I guess I have to do permanent? That's a shame as I relaly like my natural color that is at the ends, as the gray is only in the newest 2 or so inches (when i stopped pulling them out).
Any suggestions?
Hi Anon,
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that! I really think you need something designed for grays like Nice 'n Easy. It's permanent, also. Give that a try, definitely get 2 boxes (3 if your hair is super long) and let me know how it goes. Try to get close to your natural color!!
xo
Ok, I've been researching but haven't found the answer to this one:
ReplyDeleteTo cover the gray roots they recommend going 1 shade lighter. I'm thinking of just trying the roots at home myself, and then can see what i htink, or go to the salon for the full on fix.
They recommend going 1 shade lighter, but when you use permanent color over your natural brown shade, what color will that hair be? Will it be the color on the box, or a mix of the color on the box and your natural?
Hmmm...
so nervous to do all over color, so I'm trying to find a way to dip my toe in.
Thanks for the advice on 2-3 boxes! I would have been stuck for when i do go all over!
