BCBG |
Gals, this season I'm reporting on beauty trends for Elle.com, but OBV, I had to share the beauty trend news for Fashion Week here, as well. As of day one, it's all about ponys, neutral cheeks and one-hue lids. Check it.
Polished Ponytails
Formality continues to reign supreme backstage; the fall of 2012 will not celebrate a sloppy gym-ready ‘do. Monika Chiang, Alexander Tome and BCBG’s iterations are all perfectly intentional. At Chiang, the hair was pulled back into a nape-height ponytail and fastened tightly enough to yield a little bounce. At Wednesday night’s QVC fashion presentation, super-sized ponytails were created using a figure 8 technique with hair pins and a flatiron and at BCBG yesterday morning, angular faux bangs (created by placing the front pieces across the forehead before pinning them to the side) framed a sleek, shiny, straightened low pony.

Natural Nude Cheeks
It looks like nude skin with angular definition instead of rosy red cheeks will be all the rage next fall. Models boasted sylph-like cheeks on the runway at Costello Tagliapietra, highlighted rather than upstaged by a structured updo. At Richard Chai, the look was all about androgyny with a dash of “1950s mess.” MAC Cosmetics’ lead makeup artist James Kaliardos sculpted cheekbones using a taupe hue underneath the cheekbones and on the temples for a chiseled cheek while Rachel Comey instituted a slightly warmer take, veering into the city limits of bronze, but not quite passing through.

Single-shade Shadow
Many designers are choosing to glam up their models’ gaze using a single color effect, applied around the eye. Katie Gallagher’s girls told a very sci-fi story with their alien-green decorated lids. At Honor, James Boehmer for NARS dusted on matte grey shadow for a seriously smoky stare and lastly, at Nicholas K, burnished bronze around the circumference of the eyes yielded a goth sensibility.
