Let's Discuss: Valentine's Day Beauty Prep

Valentine's Day is many, many things, lots of them irritating but all becomes annoying when you focus on the Hallmark holiday as an opportunity to be your hottest self. Here's what's in my V-Day beauty arsenal.

Moi, rocking NARS Lipstick in
Funny Face & Heat Wave

Makeup
Dolce & Gabanna's new limited edition Charm Pencils ($33) are playful and pretty. Representing good luck, the traditional symbol of a heart is joined by a mini golden horn, the ancient magical amulet worn in Italy to bring good luck while protecting against the "evil eye." I love pairing them with a swipe of one of the neutrals in Physician's Formula's new Nude Shimmer Strips palette ($11). NARS makeup artist Jenny Smith hooked me up with a Thakoon-inspired pout last night at the makeup brand's blogger dinner using a gorgeous combo of NARS Lipstick in Funny Face and Heat Wave. If you're not ready for red but still want a bold V-Day lip, rock Victoria's Secret Perfect Lipstick in Hot Kiss, which boasts mirrored packaging so you can get ready for your close-up at the table surreptitiously. Want to add a bit of lacquer? Apply a "topcoat" of Victoria's Secret Naughty Kiss Lip Gloss in Tingling Mint ($15) for a refreshing gleam. Lastly, fake a "you turn me on" glow with Bobbi Brown's new Shimmer Brick in Rose Gold ($39).

Nails
My gal Andrea Lavinthal test-drove this combo out at my apartment and I'm hooked. It's two coats of Revlon's new Colorstay Longwear Nail Enamel in Amethyst, a rich purple with a coat of Deborah Lippmann's Do You Think I'm Sexy, a chunky red glitter.

Hair
Treat your winter-ravaged mane to a silkifying treatment. Milbon Linkage Meu is an in-salon service that transformed my ragged from haystack-status to spun gold. The three-step process is quick and includes aroma therapy and a weekly homecare component, so you can keep up your smooth hair concept post-treatment. I enjoyed mine at Rita Hazan Salon on 57th Street in NYC.  Got grays and can't get in to see your colorist this week? Stock up on L'Oreal Sublime Mousse (buy two boxes for longer hair). The easy-to-use formula will get your mane back to its reflective, single-hued glory within an hour.

Hair Removal
My legs has quietly experienced a COUP. Schick's new Hydro Silk For Women Razor ($12) is my EVERYTHING. Pair it with lubricating dollop of Skintimate's new Strawberry Tangering Twist Shave Gel and it corners like it's on rails, to use the parlance of Pretty Woman's Vivian Ward. It leaves my legs smooth, hair-free and with zero knicks. Je l'adore.

Fragrance
Nine West's Love Fury ($45) fragrance pinpoints the exquisite hell that Vanessa Williams and Brian McKnight once sagely sang about in their '90s duet, "Love Is." This floral-fruity story boasts a base of opulent aromas of orris flower, musk, precious wood and amber. The bottle also carries the unique stamp of Nine West – their signature mark – a stiletto high heel. A black heel-shaped cap "pierces" the flacon and slips into its juice--representing fury. To depict love/romance, the juice itself is pale pink.

Hosiery
As I tend to think of beauty items as those that stick around once clothes come off, I feel Agent Provocateur's super-sexy Seam & Heel Stretch Stockings deserve a mention. With a seam, heel and legs-only situation designed for attachment to a garter belt, these stockings scream seduction. $50 at agentprovocateur.com.

I leave you with the tidings of Ms. Williams and Mr. McKnight.

What will you wear beautywise this Valentine's Day?
