Paris Fashion Week Fall 2012 Beauty Trends

Dolls, I just wrote the following for the Elle.com and had to share here, as well.

The Paris shows are unsurprisingly bringing the beauty A-game this season, and thus far we’ve spotted quite a few trends you’ll want to try out in your own boudoir (i.e. the real woman’s backstage). Sultry center parts, vampy pouts in a range of reds, faux fringes, and slicked-back ‘dos are the looks du jour for Fall 2012.

Seventies Center Parts and Winged Eyeliner

Center-parted, bouncy Blair Warner-worthy flowing styles reminiscent of the Carter Administration gave a nod to the Breck girl commercials of yore backstage at both Chloe and Akris. At Lanvin, the long, undulating locks were contrasted by the most structured, graphic winged shadow imaginable courtesy of makeup maestro Pat McGrath. Center-parted shiny sheets of hair boasted an almost android-perfect vibe at Givenchy, while at Hermes, the ‘dos varied—both long, flowing locks and pulled-back strands coming out from under jaunty fedoras rocked the runway. In a veritable spectrum of ruddy tones, glampire glossed goth lips made a posh statement at Yves Saint Laurent, while a matte brick-red lip version made a slightly more subtle impact at Givenchy. At Kenzo, a matte berry lipstick concept comprised of MAC Cosmetics Sin, Russian Red, Ruby Woo, Girl About Town and Dare You decorated the models’ pouts.

Faux Bangs

A fake fringe provides a frame that brings a glamorous makeup concept to center stage while still being easily removed with the pull of a pin. At Celine, mock bangs were pulled to the side and bobby-pinned amid ironed strands and a bold brow. Somewhat ‘60s men’s hairstyle-reminiscent faux bangs look made an unexpectedly pretty appearance at Giambattista Valli, where the inspiration was ‘80s NYC club The Sound Factory. There, the faux bangs were intercepted by a bobby pin placed higher up at the temple so that there’s only a slight curvature on the forehead, juxtaposed with long, flowing strands. Lastly, at Leonard, a faux fringe was artfully arranged into an asymmetrical bob Tilda Swinton-style, which provided a masculine foil to the feminine fabrics on the catwalk.

Slicked-Back Styles

Uniformly unparted updos twisted into knots at ear-height at the back of the head provided a simple silhouette at Stella McCartney. A slightly mermaid-esque hairstyle featuring a sleek pulled back crown contrasted with longer, product-free hair in the back ruled the runways at Costume National, while Yves Saint Laurent’s Fall 2012 style was all about slicked-back buns featuring a decidedly formal ladylike quality.

Which is your favorite French beauty trend thus far?
