Dryad Delightful: Badgley Mischka Spring 2013 Hair, Makeup, Nails

This season's Badgley Mischka collection is inspired by the 1930s version of A Midsummer Night's Dream. The beauty dream team for the gossamer look? Tom Pecheux for MAC Cosmetics, Peter Gray for Moroccanoil and Deborah Lippmann. Walk with me, talk with me through the look, starting with makeup.

MAKEUP
Tom Pecheux for MAC Cosmetics was inspired by forest nymphs lost in the woods. He started the models off with a little skin treatment and massage (so very Francais).  Skin was enhanced with a little bit of foundation and concealer, if needed. This was followed up with a very thin layer of powder "to erase the oily skin," for a satin finish. The cheeks were rosy, thanks to a MAC powder blush, a tawny mauve called Poise. "I’m not crazy about it in the pot, but I love it on the cheeks," explained Tom. It was applied to the apples of the cheeks and functions as a blush and a contour. Brows were a bit bushy. Said Tom, "I'm using a MAC Cosmetics gel for brows to define them according to models’ brow color. Not too dramatic." Cream shadow in a sunshine yellow was applied on top and the bottom of the eyes. "It catches the light," says Tom. " I want the eyes to be big, wide," he said. White pencil was used inside the eye only on bottom with zero mascara.  The lips were adorned with MAC Lipstick in Posh Tone.

HAIR
Then, I hit up the easy-on-the-eyes Peter Gray for Morocanoil. He designed dreamy, diaphanous wispy hairstyles for the show. Says Peter, "It’s all about the illusion of chiffon, romanticized with streams of ribbon-like hair floating down and around the neck and shoulders for a mystical vibe." The hair was anchored and looped into a braided shelf cleverly hidden underneath the hair at the back, while the hair on the top and sides was kept flat, smooth and shiny with a defined side-part so that a large sweep of hair fell over to one side and back over the ear. Last, small, pale floral bloom hair pins Peter picked up at a small store on 28th street were used as an accent. Explains Peter, "When you want an updo for special occasions with a little lift, you lift up a section of the hair, elastic it away and then you braid underneath so that it acts like a shelf."

The products? Peter used Moroccanoil Volumizing Mousse (available in October) to the damp hair, before applying Moroccanoil Treatment to the ends to restore condition. He finished the look with Moroccanoil Luminous Hiarspray Strong and Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine Spray to secure and add shine.

NAILS
The talons were adorned with Deborah Lippmann’s Modern Love, a muted mauve. The shape? Short, round nails showcased two coats of the lacquer, which Deborah is calling “the new nude.” Addicted to Speed Top Coat completed the look. The toes mirrored the fingers, to tie the look together.
