Tip: Tap Tap Tap Your Lip Gloss

Try Burt's Bees Lip Gloss in Rosy Dawn.
Sometimes the simplest of tips can revolutionize the way you do something you've been doing for EONS. A couple weeks ago, Jeannine, Alexis and I shot a video with Burt's Bees Celebrity Makeup Artist Katey Denno, who is such a peach and lots of fun to work with.
In addition to turning me onto layering poppy red Lip Shimmers underneath a hibiscus-pink hue for a bespoke pinked-off red that's my new go-to lip, she taught us to simply tap on lip gloss with the applicator for a more natural, easy effect. You can tap tap tap just onto the lower lip in the center to make your pout appear plumper, or just tap on on top of your regularly scheduled lipstick so as not to do that thing that sometimes happens wherein your application actually removes the previous layer. A tiny little change, but it's made a difference in my makeup world. Plus, every time I tap on my lip lacquer, I think to myself, "tap tap tapping, tap tap tapping" and envision the kick-off moment of the hilarious scene in The Breakup, in which Brooke's (played by Jennifer Aniston) brother begins involving everyone at her dinner party in an impromptu a capella. Tap tap tapping... check it out at 1:22.

When it comes to lip color, what I'm talking about is the pulse of the collective. And that's much facilitated by Katey's awesome gloss trick. Are you tapping on your gloss? Tell me all about it. Come come on the kick-drum, GARY.
