Met Ball 2013 Makeup & Nails: January Jones

January Jones'
Black Swan-esque makeup garnered a lot of conversation at the Met Ball 2013 last night. Celebrity makeup artist Rachel Goodwin did the makeup honors, while Chanel celebrity mancurist Ashlie Johnson tended to the actress' talons. Here, the beauty breakdown for the Mad Men star's makeup and nails.
Said Goodwin, "I wanted January's makeup to have an element of danger to it, which was what the punk movement was all about, but also wanted to add a glamorous modern twist."

SKINCARE
I used CHANEL Hydra Beauty Serum on her skin to give it a boost of hydration and a subtle glow.

FOUNDATION
I applied a sheer layer of CHANEL Vitalumiere Aqua Ultra-Light Skin Perfecting Sunscreen Makeup Broad Spectrum SPF 15 in 10 Beige with a brush to the center of the face, then fanned the product out to the jawline.

POWDER
I dusted CHANEL Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Colour SPF 15 in 20 on her cheekbones to add dimension without adding color.

EYES
On the inner and outer edges of her eyes I applied CHANEL Illusion D'Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow in Mirifique and then embellished the look by adding jet crystals on top. I set each crystal by using eyelash glue and tweezers.

MASCARA
I finished the eye with Le Volume de Chanel Mascara in Noir.

LIPS
The look was completed with a swipe of CHANEL Rouge Allure Luminous Intense Lip Colour in Precieuse, which kept the entire face totally neutral so the eyes remained the focal point of the makeup.
NAILS INSPIRATION Punk (of course)

COLORS
CHANEL Le Vernis Nail Colour in Dragon
and Black Satin

PREP
I prepped January nails by shaping them in a soft natural shape, then I pushed her cuticles and trimmed any loose bits. Using CHANEL Body Excellence Nourishing and Rejuvenating Hand Cream, I massaged her hands and then cleaned the oils off her nail using a acetone and a lint free wipe. Next I painted a light coat of CHANEL Protective Base Coat and followed with a coat of CHANEL Le Vernis Nail Colour in Black Satin. To create the black triangle effect I painted CHANEL Le Vernis Nail Colour in Dragon on top, in an X type swipe leaving the black exposed. I topped it off with CHANEL Extreme Shine Nail Lacquer.

RED CARPET NAIL TRICK
This look was a little bit messier than usual so, I used a small CHANEL Concealer Brush #10, dipping in to the acetone to clean up the cuticle and sidewall areas.
