4 Ways To Wear Neon Makeup

Much like my affinity for accessorizing with different hairstyles in lieu of statement jewelry, I find myself doing the same with neon colors. Instead of bright baubles, I greatly prefer to incorporate fluorescents into my beauty routine. Adding bright blocks of color into your makeup and nail polish looks is fun, and when used in moderation, packs a powerful punch. It'll also bring any outfit (even kicking and screaming) into summer. Here, my four favorite ways to brighten up.

1. Eyes
A serious slash of hot green liner never hurt anybody, right? For a lot of energy in the eye area, you just have to temper the rest of your look. Pair your fluorescent lids with a light application of CoverGirl NatureLuxe Silk Foundation via a damp sponge to sheer it down, neutral blush and a neutral gloss, like CoverGirl Outlast Double LipShine in Sheerly Nude.

2. Cheeks
Faking a doll-like flush is so pretty for summer barbecues and outdoor music festivals. To keep the effect more festival than "messtival," keep the rest of your makeup massively subdued. A clean line of liquid liner created with CoverGirl LineBlast 24 Hour Liner paired with a pop of pink on the cheeks and a fresh, glossy lip is a great way to fake the look of a little sun.

3. Lips
A pop of pigment on the pout in the form of neon orange or pink is surprisingly wearable this season. What's great about this lip look is that it still yields a polished effect, especially if applied with a lip brush for über precision.

Tip: Apply a layer of CoverGirl LipPerfection Lipliner in Radiant all over the lip before layering on your neon lipstick to neutralize the baseline hue for a sharper pop of color.
As for lipstick, one of my favorite brights is CoverGirl Blast FlipStick Lipcolor in Perky. Not ready for a full-on color commitment? Try a sheer tinted lip gloss in a bright shade.
