The 3 Best Head-to-toe Reds

In the fall, we turn to classic fabrics like tweed and wool but also classic hues like red, navy and hunter green. In the beauty arena, amid a moodier palette of dusky shades, a ravishing retro red remains my go-to for a night out. Here, the hottest reds for your strands, lips and tips.

1. Hair
For an autumnal aura, amp up your regularly scheduled medium brown or red hue with a shot of Clairol Natural Instincts Vibrant in Cherry Chestnut Dark Auburn. It's a sultry color that gleams with dimension, but without a permanent commitment. We approve. Another one to try? If you are seeking a longer-lasting color, try Clairol Nice 'N Easy Blend Foam in Light Auburn. It's a subtler take on the red trend, and the foam makes application super simple.

2. Lips
If a slight stain is your game, CoverGirl LipPerfection Jumbo Gloss Balm in Ruby Twist is the perfect offbeat red that skews slightly lighter. You'll love that it hydrates while it adds subtle sheen. For an even more sheer take on this look, dab it on with your fingers.

For a glossy night-out pout, CoverGirl Wetslicks Fruit Spritzers Lip Glosses pack shine, fun flavor and a hint of glitter into the tube. For a simple fall face, I like to pair the Strawberry Splash shade with tinted moisturizer and mega lashes. Impactful, but great for strolling around the city without feeling too done.

For an elegant evening, it's all about lipstick. To channel old Hollywood glamour in all its greatness, you can't beat CoverGirl LipPerfection Lip Color in Hot, a rich, true creamy red. It's always a long story when applying a red lipstick — doing it straight from the tube isn't always easy if you have an especially peaked Cupid's bow. Opt for a lip brush and take your time with it. When doing touch-ups, you can simply slick it on straight from the tube once there's a blueprint established. Plus, this formula lasts so long. Case in point: I once attended a wedding and woke up with it on! That's bang for your buck, friends.
