Emmys 2013 Hair, Makeup & Nails: January Jones

Chanel celebrity makeup artist Rachel Goodwin created January Jones' luminous Emmys look last night. The Internet was a house divided re: her hair, created by Renato Camporo for Wella with color by Wella Professionals Color Ambassador Jennifer J, but I actually loved it and I also adored her ethereal gossamer gaze. Here, the beauty breakdown.

HAIR
January Jones’ hair was styled by Renato Campora using Wella Professionals and colored by Wella Professionals Color Ambassador Jennifer J. The look was inspired by 1930’s glam with a soft feminine touch.

Apply a dime size amount of Wella Professionals Oil Reflections to damp hair for protection and added shine.

Spread Wella Professionals Extra Volume Mousse through root to tips.

Create side part and blow dry with round brush

Use ½ inch curling iron to create waves and pin curls, let cool and brush them out softly.

Mist Wella Professionals Stay Firm Finishing Spray to set look for an all-night hold.
Color Information:
  • Inspiration: “We are going back to blonde again for her Betty role”
  • Color:  The color is light golden blonde with icy cool highlights to give her that old Hollywood Glamour.  I used Wella Professionals ILLUMINA color (Allure Breakthrough Award Winner) to enhance shine and keep her hair in the healthiest condition possible as she is often adventurous with her color changes.
MAKEUP
Here's how Rachel got the look using Chanel cosmetics.

"For January’s makeup, I was inspired by 1930s screen star Carole Lombard. I love the way the women of that early film era were lit; they just glowed with feminine radiance. I wanted her makeup to reflect that.

SKINCARE
I first prepared her skin with Le Jour de Chanel.

FOUNDATION
I applied a fine layer of CHANEL Vitalumiere Aqua Ultra-Light Skin Perfecting Sunscreen Makeup Broad Spectrum SPF 15 in 10 Beige on top of her moisturizer, buffing it with a damp beauty blender sponge to keep her skin looking natural. I softly sculpted her cheekbones with CHANEL Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Colour SPF 15 in No. 30.

BLUSH
I dabbed Le Blush Creme de Chanel in Revelation on the apples of her cheeks with my fingers.

BROWS
I defined her brows with Votre Vu Arch de Triumphe in Fair using a small angled brush and comb.

EYESHADOW
On her eyes, I began with a base of Ellis Faas liquid shadow in #s202. I then applied CHANEL Quadra Eyeshadow in Seduction. I used the soft pink and burgundy colors to create an ultra feminine feeling that would complement her blush-colored gown. I blended the deep burgundy into the crease then used the pale pink shimmer over the lids and brow bones.

EYELINER

MASCARA
I curled her lashes and then applied Make Up Forever Smokey Extravagant mascara in Black to the top lashes only. I finished her eyes with a set of 100% Mink lashes by Velour.

LIPS
I completed her look with CHANEL Rouge Coco Shine Hydrating Sheer Lipshine in Boy on the lips, a soft, shimmering petal color to pick up the color from her eye makeup but not compete with it.

NAILS
I applied CHANEL Le Vernis Nail Colour in Rose Cache to her nails to complete the look."

  1. Thank you for posting this Amber. I also loved her "ethereal gaze". It looks oddly refreshing. I had to know what was used. Thank you.
